Computer Backup Made Easy and Secure by SmartFile
December 9th, 2011 by Brian DowdenSmartFile, best known for offering one of the best Internet-based file storage and management services for businesses, recently added a new feature to their system. Thanks to the inclusion of rsync, performing computer backup activities has never been easier. Even better, those who are already familiar with how rsync works will find everything they know still quite applicable to SmartFile’s beta version of rsync.
When the company’s SSH server is activated, it not only accepts requests for rsync but an SFTP subsystem as well. Requests for all other types will, however, be rejected. For added security, the SSH server is also configured to request its user for password creation during the first session. Key authentication is also available for an alternative security method. A key pair must be used, though, and may be generated by encoding the command #ssh-keygen. The generated key pair may then be located in the home folders of the client’s SSH server by default. The user may change the default location for key pairs anytime.
